Head inside Books and Scrolls in the northern part of Hierarch Square and speak with Marcus. Later on, this merchant will be in the city selling goods, but there’s nothing worthwhile that you can’t purchase elsewhere. However, if you help the merchant, you’ll receive some Crowns as a reward. It’s your choice to either free the merchant or let them beat him up. Head to the alleyway between Tretogor and Southern Gate during night time and you’ll come across a couple of Scoia’tael beating up a merchant. Whatever you decide, speak with the merchant afterward to conclude the suspicious shakedown quest.
You can either cut down all the bandits in the area or use Axii (level 2 needed) to make yourself a bit more convincing. Head over to the south of Gate of the Hierarch and you’ll come across a small group of bandits harassing a merchant.
